Developing Self Confidence.
Many people suffer with confidence issues. For some it’s something that they’ve never had, for others it’s a gradual fading of their former strength. For everyone who suffers this way, it can seem that life becomes both uncertain and unfair.
A loss of self confidence often follows relationship difficulties. It is when we question ourselves most. Things can begin to seem very dark, as a result. Don’t allow one persons view of you to define you. Ultimately, how you feel about being who you are is more important than how anyone else feels about you being who you are.
I advise any client with confidence issues to remember that they are likely in a stage of transition. It is perfectly possible to turn the situation around with some basic techniques which have served many people well over the years.
My own experience, particularly working in Africa during the war in South Sudan, has been that even during times when things seem to get worse and worse, we are able to survive the most debilitating privations, if we can remember our own worth. While we are still breathing, we can make a difference.
By now you probably know what a fan I am of Dale Carnegie. His book, “Stop Worrying and Start Living” should be essential reading for us all. It’s a great place to start if you wish to develop confidence generally. Below are some suggestions you may find helpful.
- Look around you, and see if someone needs your help. By supporting someone else, we often find strength in ourselves that we overlooked.
- Don’t allow your pride to get in the way. Forget about taking offence because of something someone else has done to you. Just be yourself, and accept that not everyone is going to accept you. Your response to their disrespect should probably be compassion.
- Life is too short to let things get in your way. Choose what you want to get upset about. If you choose to get upset about everything, you are choosing a hard road.
- We are all good at something. Find what that is and focus on it.
- We all get distressed. We all get upset. At some point in our lives it happens to all of us. What really matters is how we address it. By accepting our situation, and then choosing to better it, we immediately become stronger.
- Project confidence and you will find it was there all the time.
Use the download files to help you. Remember, people change their lives everyday just by doing something about it.
