We often work with clients who need to reduce their alcohol use. In some instances they have been violent, often to members of their own family. We have a process that allows a non judgemental approach to alcohol reduction.

Initially you meet with either of our senior therapists. During this interview we discuss the details of the issue. You are then assigned a hypnotist to reduce your alcohol use. In this initial interview the details of your action are discussed, but subsequently you will work with a hypnotist technician purely on reduction techniques.

Once your hypnotist is assigned you a taken through a hypnosis based therapy which puts you on a path to alcohol reduction. Your hypnotist during this process acts as a technician and there is no requirement to divulge details of your actions. Your therapist acts purely to instil lower alcohol consumption.

Later, if you choose to, you can look at the causes in greater detail in a counselled therapy setting.

This system has been designed for those clients who need rapid reduction, and have to detox quickly. It is an intervention method designed to help rapid step down in the use of alcohol, to allow subsequent management of the issue. Many clients on this program subsequenly continue with us in a therapy model that does include greater discussion around the use of alcohol and causes of alcohol abuse.

Four sessions, over the course of a week - $700.

I often work with clients who wish to address the way they use alcohol. Some could be said to have a drink problem, others would just like to keep things in check.  Among the addictions I work with, alcohol abuse is often the most difficult to quantify. After all, it’s not as if it’s illegal.  There are also many definitions of alcoholism – some quite benign.
Consider this:

  1. Annabel is a successful lawyer.  Every night before she goes to sleep she has a glass of white wine.  She sleeps well.  If she doesn’t have her glass of wine she cannot sleep.
  2. Megan drinks one glass of red wine a day, just as her mother did all her life. She’s had three children and drank through each pregnancy. She’s 84 years old.
  3. Mike never drinks during the week. One weekend a month he takes off with the boys and binges to such excess he doesn’t remember how he gets back to the hotel.
  4. Steve drinks a scotch every night. It’s a large one and he enjoys it with his wife – part of a happy ritual that has bound them together in a happy marriage for many years.

Above we have probably two alcoholics, one non alcoholic who abuses alcohol, and one person who is using red wine as a means of supplementing her diet. You’ve probably figured out who is who.  And yet Megan’s behavior is only differentiated from Annabel’s by intent. As you can see, this is not simple – and that’s before we even think about the clearly defined alcoholic who brings vodka to the office to add to his coffee.


There’s also the fact that for some people a glass or two of wine is not an issue at all. However, for someone else, it’s enough to intoxicate them and make them visibly drunk. It has little to do with the individuals size, contrary to common belief. A 100 lb woman really can drink a 250 lb man under the table – despite what you may have heard.

Take this simple test. If the answers to any two questions are positive, then you should be seriously questioning your drinking habits.


  • Have people annoyed you by criticizing your drinking?
  • Have you ever felt guilty or bad about drinking?
  • Have you ever had a drink first thing in the morning to steady
    your nerves or to get rid of a hangover?
  • Has your work ever been negatively affected by alcohol?

Understanding your relationship with alcohol.

Our social and cultural view of alcohol is changing. Nowadays most people acknowledge that to have any alcohol in the blood and get behind the wheel is very dangerous. Twenty five years ago that was a view which was loosely considered, but far from the widely held view it is today. In reality, our children are growing up with a better value system around both drugs and alcohol than we did. Just as we consider some foods unhealthy (to our parents and grand-parents surprise), so our children are view alcohol in a different light.
Binge drinking is a growing problem among some sections of society, while others are generally toning down their alcohol use. One very positive aspect is that there is more information available now than ever before about the effects of alcohol. People who wish to address the issue have many opportunities to do so.
If you are struggling with alcohol issues, keep this in mind. Your tolerance has changed over the years. Many people simply can’t do at 40, what they did all night at 20. As we get older our bodies change. It might simply be time to change your habits. There’s no shame in this.
The physical impact of alcohol is obviously key. However, the social impact – particularly in the family – is the real battle ground. For many people the presence of alcohol is simply a bad idea.  It will make things worse. For most people, moderation is the key. Use the download to alter your drinking patterns.
If you continue to struggle after using this download, you probably have a bigger problem. For your own sake, and the sake of people you care for, address the issue. I know what I am talking about; I used to drink like a fish. I haven’t had a drink in 15 years.
Here are a few things you can do right now, to help feel a little better if you are getting to grips with the idea of reducing your alcohol use.

  1. Start making sure you eat properly. That means not skipping breakfast.
  2. Follow breakfast with a protein shake. Protein powder, 400 ml milk or a soy drink (So Good Vanilla is a favorite), add a banana and a dark berry such as blueberries, strawberries, raspberries or blackberries. Blend it and drink it before your work day starts.
  3. Use a multivitamin daily.
  4. Get into a sauna twice a week for a couple of weeks. You need to work up a good sweat – which pushes toxins out of your body and relieves your liver of a huge job of processing the junk you’ve been drinking.
  5. Don’t go crazy on a fitness drive. Moderate everything. Exercise, but do it in a sustainable way.
