Tips and tricks of Self Hypnosis

Understanding Anxiety
For anyone experiencing anxiety, the temptation is to try to focus exclusively on overcoming the moment of rising fear and trepidation. While this is understandably the most immediate concern, the best method to prevent anxiety attacks happening in the first place is to establish a healthy regimen. This means the active pursuit of a reasonable diet, exercise and sleep. These apparently obvious foundations are largely overlooked by people suffering from anxiety related issues. Without these basics in place, no end of pharmacy or treatment is going to have a lasting effect.

Getting the basics of diet, exercise and sleep firmly in place should be the first priority of anyone with anxiety related issues.

The best solutions cover all the bases. Don't expect a complete solution from one download. Build a treatment plan made from several intentions. Use of self hypnosis downloads to motivate exercise, influence positive diet choices, and induce sleep is the simplest method to create effective and positive change.

Managing Stress
Stress can result in a suppressed immune system, the development of anxiety issues, and unexpected allergy responses. These are just a few of the most obvious responses to allowing stress to become a regular feature of our life. In the early eighties we used to say ‘Lunch is for wimps’. Unfortunately it’s also for those who don’t want  a stomach ulcer. In the past we wore our stress with pride. Perhaps we’re smarter now.

The relationship between workplace stress and general poor health is well established. To remain productive and creative we need to maintain our health. Learning to dissipate stress Is an essential part of managing our health. It’s well documented that most mammals under extreme stress shed their hair, and go into a series of physiological changes. Nervous twitches, stammering, erectile dysfunction and insomnia are all examples of stress finding a means to express itself.

As we get a little older the way we manage stress shifts. By 32- 35 we are already managing stress differently to the way we coped in our twenties. One reason people develop allergies in their thirties is this shift in our ability to manage stress. This has nothing to do with ‘midlife crisis’. It’s a purely physiological reaction to an emotional stimulus.

The best way to combat physiologic responses to emotional stimuli is to create a physical/emotional solution to correct the situation. This may include stepping up exercise and doing more of the things that make you feel emotionally fulfilled. Identify the sources of stress and reduce them, and then identify those aspects of your life that reduce stress, and increase them. You can use hypnosis MP3’s to encourage this. I also always encourage people to read Dale Carnegies great book about managing stress - Stop Worrying And Start Living. You can't go far wrong with this classic good advice.

We are what we eat – and see, hear, smell, touch, taste.

We are influenced at an emotional level by all our senses. In hypnosis we typically use soft words to create a receptive feeling as the subconscious open to suggestion. However, aggressive words also create a response, often the reverse. Our guard goes up, and we become defensive. We are anything but receptive. Many of us will dig our heals in and respond to aggression by refusing to co operate.
Actually when we are very stimulated we have all our senses working overtime, as the XTC song says.

As a hypnotist I tend to be very aware of the importance of these sensory responses. Some are subtle and others less so. If you listen to harsh aggressive music, guess what… You’ll become harsh and aggressive. Listen to sad melancholy songs all the time and you are going to have a response too. One way to beat depression for some people is to play upbeat music, watch comedies on TV and dress up in brighter colours.

Even exposing ourselves to the news can have a negative effect for some of us. My best advice is to take a break from the news now and then if you find it depressing. Keep a little balance in your life. Whatever dreadful happenings are going on half a world away, if you are feeling down, turn off the TV news. The world will manage without you for a few days.

Humans are very responsive to their environment. Some smells make us feel relaxed, as the makers of aromatherapy candles have long known. Looking out over a calming seascape, or mountain view does the same. Even the process of stroking a dog or a cat can bring us a feeling of calm. Tastes, smells, sounds, sights and touches are all able to positively affect us. Making a note of those things we find relaxing, and actively increasing them in our lives is a simple way to make ourselves feel better every day. Try it – you’ll find the results surprising.
