Losing Weight With Hypnosis

We work with many clients addressing weight issues. You may wish to additionally look at our pages about Binge Eating. We have one hypnotist assigned specifically to our weight loss clients. She will work with you and manage your program. As with all hypnosis at Vancouver Hypnotherapy, she is backed up by a team of professionals that assure you receive the highest standard of service.

Please read this page in detail. You will learn a lot about how dieting is marketed, as well as what really works. Our assumption is that you are serious about losing weight. If that is the case, the first place to start is to get a little knowledge about the process.

Our weight loss program enjoys success because it is not only effective, it's enjoyable. Clients learn to use food healthily and sensibly, using the moderation attainable with hypnosis. As a result they not only lose weight - it stays off. Other systems fight against your appetite and desires. Our system alters them. You will think about food in a subtly different, healthier way.

There are many ways to use hypnosis to assist in a calorie controlled diet. However, there is a far more effective means of using hypnosis if you are serious about managing your weight. Our objective in this course of four sessions is to instill a healthy use of food, create good food discipline and establish a changed way of looking at food.

 

Our method draws on Bob Greene's great book, "The Best Life Diet". We would encourage all participants to read this book as part of their four session course. Using hypnosis we reinforce relevant beliefs and help you commit to an exercise regime that is suitable for you.

Our past success have included one client that lost 70 lbs to achieve a trim 190 lbs. This male client is now enjoying a return to his former athletic self. This reduction was managed over an 8 month period and was a result of sustainable targets and efforts, combined with a regime of exercise that was both enjoyable and manageable. Our goal is to provide all our clients with an experience that will be both successful and enjoyable.

Why other diet systems fail.

Many diets simply restrict the way you use foods. You may lose some weight initially, but as soon as the diet is eased, it comes right back on again. This is because you are asked to address your issue at a conscious level, while the problem lies at an entirely subconscious level. Simply reducing calories leave the person dieting 'lighter', but so dissatisfied it is only a matter of time before their diet fails and they revert to their former weight. It does nothing to address the way they actually use and think about food. You are left quite literally struggling against a part of you that 'wants more'. That's not a fight you can win. Additionally most diet systems entirely fail to address an essential aspect of healthy living - exercise. A diet that has no exercise component is not a diet; it's a con.

Beware of terms like 'Virtual Gastric Band' hypnosis. Such ideas are compelling because they seem to promise zero effort and apparently remarkable returns. While low on scientific evidence they are high on hype. There are serious questions about the efficacy of such systems. The long term effects of these programs have not been studied, and so no evidence really exists of their effectiveness - regardless of the great marketing that backs them up.

Simply choosing to buy food that is labeled 'Low Fat', or distributed by a pyramid scheme marketing method, is not going to work. Your intent is good, but you are being sucked into the common misconception that there is an easy solution. There isn't.

The marketing of weight loss products and diets is a massive business. As a marketing exercise, the company that produces the easiest system to use, at a suitable price, with the lowest cost of marketing, stands to make a great deal of money. There's a problem with this. At no point does it take into account your success or failure to lose weight. The stakes are high, and there's no shortage of charlatans out there to snap up a few dollars. Assure yourself of the success of the system you go with, before parting with any money. People are very quick to take advantage of others insecurities about self image and weight. It is, unfortunately, a bit of a shark tank out there.

Why our program works.

We shift the way you think about food. That is no small task. Using hypnosis we reduce your impulse to use food in an unhealthy manner, and instill a measure of moderation that will have the desired effect. Additionally you will find yourself motivated toward an appropriate level of exercise. Your new and healthy outlook will leave you gently reducing in size until you stabilize at a comfortable new weight.

We consistently come back to a couple of basic points.

1. Weight loss is dependent on a shift in eating patterns, AND a shift in exercise.

2. You need to address the way you think about food - or else you will revert to previous eating patterns.

This course is rather different than addressing binge eating, or the emotional use of food - which can often be traced directly to a source or initiating event. This course establishes a process of healthy eating practices and ways of thinking about food that will underpin the way you think of food for the rest of your life.

We do our best to see our clients as soon as possible. We employ more therapists than any other hypnotherapy clinic in BC and as a result, you will see a therapist more promptly than with any other hypnotherapy organisation. Additionally we offer this as a group course, starting on the first Wednesday evening of the month at 7 pm, or as an individual sessions tailored to your own time table. Choose your option below, you can pay online and we will then contact you to schedule your attendance. Generally group sessions are attended by about 6 clients, and we can often get you into the next course that starts. From time to time a backlog develops, but if that is the case we note it here.

Preparation for your diet.

Like most things, it really helps to go into your program with a plan.  You will be changing the way you think about food. You will be stepping up your exercise a little. You need to choose a form of exercise that you enjoy – so it’s easy to commit to.


You don’t need to decide to run a marathon. For some people it will be a quiet walk each day.  For others, a commitment to get into yoga daily. It really rather depends where you are starting from. But you will do something. So start thinking about what you would like to do.
Some common options are:

The daily walk.
Taking a ballroom dancing course.
Walking your own or a friends dog.
Getting to a pool once or twice a week.
Stepping up your time in the gym.
Cycling to work.
Deciding to do exercise with a friend, instead of alone.

You can immediately see the fallacy of diet pills, herbal products that make outlandish claims and all the other ‘quick fix’ diets. Anyone who chooses ‘Virtual liposuction’ probably needs a ‘Virtual lobotomy’. It’s going to require effort. That’s ok. You can do it. Using hypnosis you will be reinforcing your own commitment and giving yourself the extra motivation necessary to make the difference.


Look closely at who is giving you this training. If they are overweight, you need to question its value. This is a little harsh, but it is the truth you need to hear. Our approach is one where we are committed to the program as much as you are.
